The Tugged Hand
written by William Henry Davies
From "The Loneliest Mountain", 1939 Link to further information

I have no ears or eyes
For either bird or flower;
Music and lovely blooms
Must bide their lighter hour;
So let them wait awhile -
For yet another day

Till I at last forget
The woman lying dead;
And how a lonely child
Came to his mother's bed
And tugged at her cold hand -
And could not make it play.
