Catching the Devil
written by William Henry Davies
From "The Birth Of Song", 1936 Link to further information

Not while her charms are still in flower,
We'll trust no woman then;
Not till her beauty's gone for good,
Can she be safe with men.
I thought I loved an angel once,
Without one breath of evil -
Till, smiling in my cunning trap,
I saw the very devil!
I set my trap in my friend's face,
With his weak face my glass;
Till, with his looks reflecting hers -
O Lord, how false she was!
