Babylon

Always Comes Evening ~ Babylon автор Robert Ervin Howard

Link to further information

For I have seen the lizards crawl
Through high Belshazzar's marble halls
When ghastly shadow petals fall
   In Babylon, dead Babylon.

And many a golden girdled spire
Like molten moonlight veined with fire,
That fell before the ages 'ire
   In Babylon, far Babylon.

Have watched the star-dark, misty shades
Come down the lonely colonnades
When the grey rose of twilight fades
   In Babylon, in Babylon.

Lost since the dust dead distant noon
When Rustum heard the trumpet tune
And Tamerlane broke down the moon
And ringed the walls of Babylon.
