He strikes a match – and instantly
The lovely flower of light,
The little flame of life in the vast night
Blossoming on the dead stick, fills his eyes
With something of a child’s surprise;
And they, new-washed with wonder gaze
In innocent amaze,
As on that early mystery
When out of Chaos and Old Night
God spake, and there was Light.
