I heard a man once say this world
Was but a speck in space;
A leaf upon a shoreless tide,
That had no resting-place.
I told him then how vast this world
Was to my own poor mind;
Of all the places seen, and still
My child I could not find.
I told that man where I had been,
I mentioned towns around;
And still my boy, in all these years.
Is never to be found.
