| Sonnet of the Garland of Roses (Soneto de la guirnalda de rosas) written by Federico García Lorca, translated by Paperpencils |
This garland! quickly! before I die!
Weave it quickly! sing! turn! sing!
how the shadow clouds my throat
and once again and a thousand times the January light.
Between your desire and my own,
an air of stars and quivering plants,
thickets of anemones arise
with a dark whimper of an entire year.
Enjoy the fresh landscape of my wound,
break the reed and delicate brooks.
Drink the pouring blood from a honeyed thigh.
But quickly! So that united, entwined,
with mouths broken by love and with bitten souls,
time may find us destroyed.
