{{-}} and {{--}} are used to record a word that is hyphenated between two pages.
In the "page" namespace:
- The template {{-}} is used in the first page and displays param 1 (1st word-fragment) followed by a hyphen (-)
- The template {{--}} is used in the second page and displays param 2 (2d word-fragment)
In the "main" namespace, the whole word is transcluded.
