Nay, no more bitterness from me;
The past is gone, so let it be;
And I will keep smiles softer than
The sad smiles of a dying man
For a child comforter - to give
My sweetest dream, that still must live.
My sweetest dream, that comes more bold;
Of one sweet, simple child of old;
Who, though a queen, and a great one,
Would wear her jewels like a nun;
When miser leaves unlocked his door,
I may forget her - not before.
